Are researchers in Kentucky working with stem cells?

Yes.  University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville are known to be experimenting with adult stem cells.

The University of Louisville is also experimenting with embryonic stem cells, which are taken from living human embryos.   This practice at the University of Louisville raises an interesting question because KRS 311.715 states that:

"Public medical facilities may be used for the purpose of conducting research into or the performance of in vitro fertilization as long as such procedures do not result in the intentional destruction of a human embryo."

Both universities have vigorously opposed efforts to protect human embryos through legislation.
